4/3/19 ASHLAND, Ohio – The Gordon E. Heffern Lecture on Christian Ethics in Business at Ashland University this year will feature a lecture by Timothy Knight, founder of Knight & Associates Consulting and a prior executive of Sherwin-Williams Co.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held Thursday, April 11, at noon in Redwood Hall off King Road on the AU campus. Ashland University and In His Steps Foundation are sponsoring the event, which is hosted by AU’s Richard and Sandra J. Dauch College of Business and Economics.
The Gordon E. Heffern Lecture on Christian Ethics in Business is an event that invites a guest speaker to share their experience in applying Christian ethics in the business world. “We are excited to have Timothy Knight here for our event this year,” said Dr. Elad Granot, dean of the Dauch College of Business and Economics. “This event reflects Gordon Heffern’s legacy of integrating his strong Christian faith with a successful business career.”
Granot said friends and family of Gordon Heffern have created an endowment with AU, which supports the ongoing lecture series. “In His Steps Foundation, founded by Gordon Heffern, is providing matching financial support and strategic advice to help make this lecture series a success,” Granot said.
Knight founded Knight & Associates Consulting in August 2016 after 22 years at The Sherwin-Williams Company. Knight & Associates Consulting provides consulting services with a focus on Strategy, Growth, Organizational and Leadership Development, and Mergers & Acquisitions to a variety of companies and private equity firms in the Specialty Chemicals, Paints & Coatings, Building Products, Construction and Retail industries. In addition, Knight is a senior advisor at Arsenal Capital Partners, a New York based private equity firm that focuses its investments in specialty chemical portfolio companies. Finally, he serves on the Board of Directors of MTD Products, Chromaflo Technologies, Meridian Adhesives Group and Keyland Polymer Material Sciences.
At The Sherwin-Williams Co., Knight led the company’s strategy and M&A efforts from 2007 to 2010 and again from 2015 to 2016 as senior vice president, Corporate Planning & Development. During his tenure in this role, the Sherwin-Williams made 18 acquisitions including the Valspar deal for $11.3 billion. Knight also served as president, Latin America Coatings Group; president, Global Group; and president, Diversified Brands Division, and he held several other sales and marketing leadership positions after joining the company in 1994.
Prior to joining Sherwin-Williams, Knight held marketing roles at The Procter & Gamble Co. and Rubbermaid. He also served as an officer in the U.S. Army for six years with duty in Europe, Korea, and the 1991 Persian Gulf War. He received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a BA and MA in Engineering Science and Economics from Oxford University in England.
Knight lives with his wife, Pam, and two children, Jaclyn and Justin, in Fairlawn, Ohio. He is active in the community and volunteers at The Chapel in Akron, Camp Carl, The Well, and Restore Addition Recovery.
