6/25/19 ASHLAND, Ohio - Dr. Amiel Jarstfer has been named as the new provost at Ashland University, effective July 1. Dr. Jarstfer comes to Ashland from Lincoln Memorial University (LMU), where he was serving as vice president for Academic Affairs.
“We conducted a thorough, national search for our next academic leader and we are very excited to be able to announce that Dr. Amiel Jarstfer has been selected to serve as the next provost of Ashland University,” said AU President Dr. Carlos Campo. “Dr. Jarstfer has considerable experience in higher education, including serving as the academic leader at Lincoln Memorial University.”
Jarstfer was named assistant vice president for Student Success and dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at LMU in 2010. In 2012, he was appointed dean of the School of Mathematics and Sciences and served in that role until July 1, 2017, when he began serving LMU students and faculty as vice president for Academic Affairs.
Jarstfer worked for the University of Florida for seven years as a staff research scientist, which included laboratory and personnel management along with publishing original research reports and book chapters. He also is an inventor with several patents to his credit.
After completing his Ph.D. at the University of Florida, Jarstfer was a faculty member for 15 years at LeTourneau University in NE Texas, and served as dean of Arts and Sciences for 10 years. From his beginning as an assistant professor of Biology, Jarstfer has been involved with improving student advising and success.
“We want to thank Dr. Todd Marshall for his excellent work as interim provost this past semester,” Campo noted. “Dr. Marshall will now serve as vice president of Online and Adult Studies, serve on the executive leadership team and lead our growing work in this area.”
