2/18/14 ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University’s Professional Development “Beyond Lockdown” online safety course is being offered to school administrators, teachers and staff throughout the state as well as other interested parties.
The course instructor, Dr. Amy Klinger, associate professor of educational administration at Ashland University, is an expert in school safety and security issues and is a certified Department of Homeland Security instructor as well as a certified ALICE trainer.
“The course answers many questions, for example, do you feel that you don’t have enough training to keep you and your students safe, or does it seem that you are the only one in your school who is willing to do anything about school safety?” Klinger said.
Klinger said “Beyond Lockdown” is a great way to build response capabilities because it empowers people with the skills and knowledge that are needed.
“Our first completer of this course, Julie from Ohio, took the self-paced, on-demand course on lockdown enhancements and had great things to say about it,” Klinger said. “She said, ‘I feel so much better coming to work every day. I feel educated and empowered….I wish others would have such an urgent belief about protecting our children daily.’”
“Beyond Lockdown” is available for CEUs or Ashland University graduate credit. Go to http://www.eschoolsafety.org/online-lockdown-course/ to register or for more information.
