03/03/2020 PERRYSBURG TWP., Ohio – Education professionals in Northwest Ohio will be able to stay close to home and still access the professional development services offered by Ashland University, thanks to the opening of the university’s new regional center in Perrysburg Township.

The sixth of AU’s regional centers is now headquartered inside Penta Career Center, a career-technical education high school, located at 9301 Buck Road in Perrysburg Township.  AU’s Dr. Wendy Stanley will serve as its director.

“Ashland Professional Development Services is proud to be able to open a Center that will serve the Northwest and Toledo regions of the State,” said Dr. James Powell, the executive director of Professional Development Services, a part of AU’s Founders School of Continuing Education. “It is difficult for the educators in that region to access the professional services that are offered due to the distance from Ashland.  The new Northwest Center will allow us to provide educators with services that better meet their individual needs.”

Penta Career Center is providing space in its Adult Post-Secondary offices for AU’s regional center.  “We are very pleased that Ashland University chose Penta Career Center as a site for its new regional center,” said center Superintendent Edward Ewers.  “This will be a great opportunity for our teachers and for other educators in our region to obtain professional development services at a convenient location.”

AU’s Office of Professional Development Services works to provide high-quality professional learning opportunities and works with districts and other content providers to offer learning experience aligned to school district goals or state initiatives or to meet the individual needs of the participant. All courses go through an internal approval process and must meet the Ohio Standards for Professional Development as stated by the Ohio Department of Higher Education.

In the past year, more than 20,000 Ohio educators were provided professional learning opportunities through AU’s regionals centers across Ohio.

"I am excited about the opportunities for educators in our area to be provided with affordable, accessible, and relevant coursework and professional learning services tailored to the specific needs of area schools and school districts," said Stanley.

"Ashland University is very pleased to have Dr. Wendy Stanley join the professional learning services team of the College of Online and Adult Studies,” said Dr. Dean A. Goon, Dean of AU’s College of Online and Adult Studies. “Dr. Stanley will lead the Northwest Center to provide flexible and high quality professional development. COAS is committed to working professionals to provide non-credit and credit options for their career advancement.  A new office at Penta Career Center is Ashland University's commitment to be a leader in adult education and professional learning."
