4/16/15 ASHLAND, Ohio – Matt Tullis, associate professor of journalism at Ashland University and adviser to the AU student newspaper, The Collegian, published “The Ghosts I Run With,” a piece of memoir on running and childhood cancer on the national sports website SB Nation Longform on April 15.
The article focuses on the children and other cancer patients that Tullis knew when he was battling childhood leukemia as a teenager, most of whom did not survive, and how he often finds himself thinking about them when he goes on long runs.
“I've been amazed at how the story has taken off, especially on social media,” Tullis said. “I’m really just happy a lot of people are reading this and will get to know these people who have had a profound impact on my life.”
Tullis also was interviewed by Bill Littlefield, host of the National Public Radio show, “Only A Game.” During this interview, Tullis talked about his new SB Nation Longform story "The Ghosts I Run With."
Tullis’s segment will air on “Only A Game” this weekend. The show’s broadcast times vary depending on local NPR affiliates. However, 90.3 WCPN in Cleveland will air the show at 7 a.m. on Sunday. You can listed to the radio interview HERE.

Prior to joining Ashland University in 2008, Tullis worked as a newspaper reporter for a number of newspapers, including the Columbus Dispatch and the Wooster Daily Record. He is a 1998 graduate of Ashland University and received an MFA degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
This is his fourth story for SB Nation Longform. His first story, "Feet of Clay, Heart of Iron," was included in Byliner's 102 Spectacular Nonfiction Stories of 2012 and was a notable selection in Best American Sports Writing 2013. He also has written for Sports on Earth and Yahoo!'s The Post Game, and is the host and producer of Gangrey: The Podcast, a podcast that features narrative journalists and the stories they write.
