9/9/19 ASHLAND, Ohio – Michael Hatchard, who established the English law practice at the leading international law firm of Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP, will be the featured speaker for the 17th annual Dr. Lucille F. and L.W. Ford Distinguished Business Lecture and Luncheon to be held at 12 noon on Thursday, Sept. 26, in Ashland University’s Myers Convocation Center.

The event is sponsored by Ashland University alumni Dr. Peter ’73 and Kathleen ’73 Linneman and is hosted by Ashland University’s Richard E. and Sandra J. Dauch College of Business and Economics. Linneman is the principal of Linneman Associates and also serves as the Albert Sussman emeritus professor of Real Estate, Finance and Business Public Policy at the Wharton School of Business. The Linnemans created and support this lecture series in recognition of the amazing impact Lucille and Larry Ford had on their lives. Their intention is to enrich business education at Ashland University by bringing extraordinary business leaders such as Hatchard to campus to discuss their business and life philosophies.
Hatchard was a partner at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP from 1994 until 2017 with particular responsibility for mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. He was previously a partner at London law firm Theodore Goddard where he began his career in law in 1978.
He was identified in Chambers UK Solicitors Guide 2018 as one of the three “Star” individuals in Corporate/M&A among London lawyers and referred to as “a titan of the corporate law world” having worked on some of the largest, most complex cross-border merger transactions, including Ball Corporation’s USD 12 billion acquisition of Rexam, Pfizer’s USD 118 billion tilt at AstraZeneca and bids for iconic assets including the London Stock Exchange, Sky, Schroders, Greyhound and Chelsea Football Club.
Hatchard qualified as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales with honors in 1980 after earning a law degree from the University of Reading in 1977. He now serves as an alternate member of the UK Panel on Takeovers and Mergers and continues working on various governance and company projects as a consultant and retains relationship with Skadden. He lives in Wimbledon, England, and is married to Anna, a Neurological Physiotherapist and Positive Applied Psychologist, with a total of five children; rows the Thames annually as a founder of the Iantheian Vintage Skiff Rowing Club; is president of the Justinians Society and holds several trusteeships of charitable institutions including his old school Sherborne Foundation. Other interests include collecting, travel, woodland management and crafts.
