Award Winners Announced at Ashland University Juried Student Art Exhibition

3/18/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The award winners have been announced for the Ashland University 2011 Juried Student Art Exhibition that will run through April 1 in the University's Coburn Gallery.

The outside juror for the exhibition was Kate Shannon, assistant professor of art at Ohio State University-Mansfield Campus, and she was responsible for selecting the exhibition consisting of 73 artworks from among a competitive field of 121 student entries and also designating the award recipients.

"It was a pleasure to view and select the works included in this dynamic student exhibition. This is an exciting opportunity for Ashland University students to experience one of the most important, and perhaps most challenging, parts of the artistic process: to remove work from the comfort of the classroom or studio and present it to the outside world.  It is evident that these talented students are both prepared and excited to meet this challenge," Shannon said. "Overall, this exhibition includes an exciting variety of materials, approaches and ideas. Congratulations to each applicant for having the courage to submit. Please remember that a juried show is as much a reflection on the subjective tastes of the juror as it is the quality of the artwork that is submitted."
