Award Winners Announced for AU Student Art Exhibition

3/19/18 ASHLAND, Ohio – The award winners have been announced for the Ashland University 2018 Juried Student Art Exhibition that will run through April 8 in the University’s Coburn Gallery.

This exhibition offers $1,000 in awards to student artists, including Best in Show, Bernini Award, Dean’s Award, People’s Choice Award and awards in each of the six art areas: painting, printmaking, sculpture, digital art, graphic design and drawing. The awards were announced at the opening reception of the exhibition on March 15, and the People’s Choice award will be announced on the Coburn Gallery’s Facebook page on March 26.

The student award winners include:

-- $250 Best in Show award presented to Rachael Santee, Columbus, Ohio, for her oil painting titled, “Grasping.” This award was sponsored by the Coburn Gallery.










-- $100 Bernini Award presented to Lauren Bayless, Marion, Ohio, for her acrylic painting titled “The Basement.” This award was sponsored and selected by Dr. Wendy and Scott Schaller.










-- $200 College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Award presented to Ashley Montgomery, Centerburg, Ohio, for her digital design titled “Fantastic Currency.” This was sponsored and selected by Ashland University Dean of College of Arts & Sciences- Dr. Dawn Weber.










Additional art area awards were sponsored by the AU Art and Design Department and the Coburn Art Gallery and included:



-- $100 3-D Award presented to Samantha Rhonemus, Bluffton, Ohio, for a metal sculpture titled “Soldadura.”













-- $100 Printmaking Award presented to Keeleigh Myers, Sandusky, Ohio, for her relief print titled “Eruption.”









-- $100 Digital Art & Photography Award presented to Saige Haines, Sunbury, Ohio, for her photograph with yarn titled “Seven String Sins.”













-- $100 Graphic Design Award presented to Kiana Zeigler, Ashland, Ohio, for her digital design titled “This is Our Land.”









-- $100 Painting Award presented to Victoria Roddy, Westerville, Ohio, for her oil painting titled “Ohio in Wintertime.”










-- $100 Drawing Award presented to Callie Roddy, Westerville, Ohio, for her charcoal drawing titled “Skeleton Study #1.”









-- $25 gift card Alumni “Wink” Award presented to Alex Roddy, Westerville, Ohio, for the ink drawing titled “You Have River Mud Clinging to Your Bones, Swamp Water in Your Lungs.” The Alumni Award is selected and sponsored by 2012 alumnus Jennifer Winkler.

The outside juror for exhibition was Stephanie Craig. Craig is an Assistant Professor at Cuyahoga Community College Western Campus, where she teaches ceramics, 3D foundation and sculpture classes and is also the co-director of the campus art gallery. Craig accepted 52 entries of the 111 art entries submitted.
