CANCELED: Ashland University hosts second annual Re-Entry Summit

03/06/2020 ASHLAND, Ohio – EDWIN’S Leadership and Restaurant Institute founder and CEO Brandon Chrostowski will be the keynote speaker on Friday, March 20, as the Ashland University Correctional Education Program partners with the Securus Foundation and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections to offer their second annual Re-Entry Summit at the John C. Myers Convocation Center on the AU campus.

The theme of this year’s summit is “Redemption: Overcoming Adversity”. The event begins with registration and a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. and will continue with panel discussions and  presentations until 3:45 p.m. Registration is free and can be completed at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ashland-university-correctional-education-s... and a box lunch will be provided.

Organizations participating in the summit’s resource fair will include Appleseed Community Mental Health Center, Ashland County Job and Family Services, Ashland Salvation Army, Ashland Goodwill Industries, Catholic Charities of Ashland County, First Call 211, Mansfield UMADAOP, relink.org, The Richland County Citizen, The RIDGE Project, Securus Foundation and Transformation Network.

“This summit will bring people together to build an understanding of the resources, challenges and life of returning citizens,” said Dr. Todd Marshall, AU vice-president of Correctional Education and Innovation. “We are also fostering communication that leads to a greater understanding of the dynamics of working with formerly incarcerated individuals and the people who support them, as well as cultivating connections and partnerships to improve the reintegration and reengagement of formerly incarcerated individuals into their community.”

Chrostowski, who will speak at 9:30 a.m., is a trained chef and sommelier who worked at some of the finest restaurants in Paris, New York and Chicago before founding EDWIN’S in Cleveland, which offers culinary education and life skills mentorship at its flagship restaurant, as well as Second Chance Life Skills Centers, a program at the Grafton Correctional Institute, and curriculum for all 30 Ohio prisons.
