10/24/18 ASHLAND, Ohio – Approximately 100 educational and faith-based leaders from across the country converged on Ashland University this morning for the 2018 National Hispanic Education Summit that is being held on the Ashland University campus.
The free summit, presented by the Faith and Education Coalition of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, is focusing on “Reshaping the Funnel: Proven College Completion Strategies for Hispanic Students,” and addressing the troubling reality that while many Hispanics are enrolling in college, far fewer leave with a degree.
“We are excited to host this National Hispanic Education Summit on the AU campus. This will provide an opportunity for those on campus and in the area to network with distinguished educational and faith-based leaders from across the country, while learning proven strategies that will help students of all ethnicities thrive and complete their college education,” said AU President Dr. Carlos Campo, who serves as this year’s chair of the Alliance for Hispanic Education.
Dr. Carmen Serrata, project manager for College Advising Plus (CAP), is the keynote speaker for the summit. Serrata is an education researcher, practitioner, and proud first-generation, immigrant Latina. Dr. Serrata’s strong passion for investigating social justice themes as they relate to higher education have afforded her diverse and rich opportunities across the P-20 continuum, including program design, curriculum, and strategic visioning. As project manager for the College Advising Corps, a national college access organization, she leads programs toward innovative and data-driven practices that enhance adviser capabilities across 62 partner high schools.
Summit registration and attendance is free of charge and can be completed by visiting https://www.eventbrite.com and placing Ashland, OH, in the location search box.
