2/6/14 ASHLAND, Ohio – Bo Lacey Construction of Ashland has endowed a scholarship that will be presented annually to students who attend Ashland University from Ashland County or one of the eight counties surrounding Ashland.
The Bo Lacey Construction Endowed Scholarship at Ashland University was established at the end of 2013 by Kevin Lacey and Jon Qualls, owners of Bo Lacey Construction, a construction firm that has been in business in Ashland for more than 30 years.
“John and I are both graduates of Ashland University and we understand the importance of higher education and making it more affordable for families. This is one way we can help with that,” Lacey said.
AU President Dr. Fred Finks said endowed scholarships are important to the success of Ashland University.
“We are so pleased that Kevin Lacey and Jon Qualls have made the decision to provide the funding for an endowed scholarship that will help students being able to attend Ashland University,” said Ashland University President Dr. Fred Finks. “It is a gift that keeps on giving year after year and will continue to touch students forever.”
According to the endowed scholarship stipulations, the scholarship will be awarded annually to a student from Ashland, Richland, Medina, Wayne, Huron, Knox, Holmes, Lorain or Erie counties. The scholarship will be renewed annually provided that the recipient maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in pursuit of the degree.
Ashland University Endowed Scholarships, which begin at $25,000, help to provide deserving students of modest means with an Ashland education, and enrich the Ashland experience by ensuring a diverse student body. Approximately 500 named endowed scholarships have been established since 1980.
When a gift is endowed, the initial principal is invested and awards are made from the annual earnings. This provides a level of current support, while providing a reliable source of funds for the future.
Ashland University, which has been ranked in the top 200 colleges and universities in U.S. News and World Report’s National Universities category, is a mid-sized, private university conveniently located a short distance from Akron, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. Ashland University (www.ashland.edu) values the individual student and offers a unique educational experience that combines the challenge of strong, applied academic programs with a faculty and staff who build nurturing relationships with their students. ###
