NBC Sports, the Detroit News and several other news sources are reporting that former Ashland University student-athlete Carlin Isles has signed with the Glasgow Warriors, a Scottish rugby team. Carlin Isles, who played football and ran track at Ashland University, was the U.S. rugby player whom the Detoit Lions signed to their practice squad last season.
The Lorain Morning Journal featured an article on Ashland University alumnus and Clearview teacher Manny Santana who attended President Obama's State of the Union address with Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur.
Ashland University's new online criminal justice program and program recruiter Jeff Shook were featured in a Mansfield News Journal article titled "Retired detective recruits for AU program." Shook, who is a retired Mansfield police detective, is now lead reruiter for the new online criminal justice program designed for people with law enforcement or military backgrounds.
Ashland University was noted in a Wall Street Journal article titled "Degrees of Value: Making College Pay Off." The article, which talks about the value of higher education today, listed Ashland University as one of two universities that slashed tuition costs.
Karen Farkas, the higher education reporter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, wrote an article summarizing the higher education issues in 2013. The article included reference to Ashland University reducing its tuition for the 2014-15 academic year.
Dr. Kathleen Scott, assistant professor of educational foundations at Ashland University, wrote a guest column that appeared in the Dec. 24 Cleveland Plain Dealer and cleveland.com website. The column, titled "Third Grade Reading Guarantee implementation plan is unrealistic," dealt with the recently enacted so-called "Third Grade Reading Guarantee."
Dr. Kathleen Scott, assistant professor of educational foundations at Ashland University, was quoted in a Toledo Blade article titled "Time for a Conversation about Common Core." The commentary is about the Common Core state standards, which are dramatically reshaping what is taught and tested in public schools.
The Mansfield News Journal ran an article about a Richland County commissioners meeting that discussed a study done by Ashland University. Mansfield-Richland County Convention and Visitors Bureau president Lee Tasseff met with the commissioners and outlined the results of a study done by Ashland University. The study was conducted by Maura Grady, assistant professor of English at Ashland University; Richard Roberson, assistant professor of hospitality management, and 20 AU students, all in partnership with the CVB.
Roger Beckett, executive director of the Ashbrook Center, was quoted in the Columbus Dispatch as part of an article titled, "Medicaid puts Kasich on spot over Obamacare."
