Earth Week Set at Ashland University

3/21/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Along with initiatives seen around the world, Ashland University is "Going Green" in hopes for a better environment. Though recycling is the most visible form of this movement, Ashland University is working hard to promote a more sustainable living in many different facets. One of these events is Earth Week, held at Ashland University the first full week in April.

Award Winners Announced at Ashland University Juried Student Art Exhibition

3/18/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The award winners have been announced for the Ashland University 2011 Juried Student Art Exhibition that will run through April 1 in the University's Coburn Gallery.

The outside juror for the exhibition was Kate Shannon, assistant professor of art at Ohio State University-Mansfield Campus, and she was responsible for selecting the exhibition consisting of 73 artworks from among a competitive field of 121 student entries and also designating the award recipients.

Bruce Hunter to Speak at Ashland University

3/18/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Bruce Hunter, associate executive director of The American Association of School Administrators, headquartered in Washington, D.C., will be visiting Ashland University on Wednesday, March 23.

Hunter, who is one of the strongest advocates of public education in the halls of Congress and a nationally sought after speaker on educational issues at the national level, will speak as part of a public presentation being held at 6:15 p.m. in the Ronk Lecture Hall in the Dwight Schar College of Education building.

Tickets Still Available for John Boehner's Speech at Ashbrook Center's Memorial Dinner

3/17/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Tickets are still available for the 26th annual John M. Ashbrook Memorial Dinner on April 8 that will feature Speaker John A. Boehner as the keynote speaker.

Sponsored by the John M. Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs, the Memorial Dinner event has hosted many national leaders including Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Colin Powell and Margaret Thatcher.

University Offers A Fun Evening Of Opera Scenes From Mozart To Gilbert & Sullivan

3/16/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University Department of Music challenges its audiences by asking "Who's Afraid of Opera?" as it presents two fun evenings of opera scenes from Mozart to Gilbert and Sullivan. The performances, which are free and open to the public, are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall.

Ashland University English Department Sets Annual Spring Reading Series

3/16/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland University English Department has set the Spring 2011 Reading Series that will include a fiction reading on April 4, a poetry reading on April 11 and a creative nonfiction reading on April 18.

All three readings will take place in Room 138 of the Dwight Schar College of Education and are free and open to the public. Readings begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by refreshments at 5:30 p.m.

Author to Speak at Ashland University

3/16/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Sandra Philipson, the author of a series of books about her dogs, will be coming to speak at Ashland University as part of the Schar College of Education's Guest Author and Illustrator Series funded by a grant from the Hire Family Foundation.

Philipson will speak Tuesday, April 4, at 10 a.m. in the Ronk Lecture Hall of the Dwight Schar College of Education and will be autographing her books after her presentation. The speech is free and open to the public and special guests for this event will be two of Sandy's current therapy dogs.
