Ashland University Takes On "Rachel's Challenge" To Spread Compassion, Kindness

8/15/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The Columbine High School tragedy in April of 1999 took many lives. For one of those lives, her message of kindness, compassion and character has since been carried on and will be shared at Ashland University this fall.

The Ashland University Center of Religious Life will present "Rachel's Challenge," a program inspired by Rachel Scott, the first shooting victim of the Columbine tragedy. The presentation will take place Thursday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m. in the Jack & Deb Miller Chapel at Ashland University.

Ashland University's Matt Portner Named to National Board

8/5/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Matthew Portner, director of Auxiliary Services at Ashland University, recently accepted the position of Central Regional Representative to the Board of Directors of the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS).

Although Portner has been a member of NACAS for several years and served on several committees, this is his first national position. He will begin his new role in November.  Previously, Portner served as the president of the Central Region.

'Art Saturdays' to be held on Ashland University Campus

8/5/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University's Coburn Gallery and Art Club will again this fall offer "Art Saturdays," an educational and creative experience for children 7 to 15 years old. "Art Saturdays" will be offering classes on the following dates - Sept. 10, Oct. 15 and Nov. 19 - in the Center for the Arts on the Ashland University campus.

Ashland University Hires Assistant Director of Development for Athletics

8/2/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Megan McCollins has been hired as an assistant director of development for athletics at Ashland University.

McCollins, who lives in Medina, is a 2007 graduate of Ashland University with a bachelor of arts degree in sports communication. A native of Worthington, she is a 2003 graduate of Worthington Kilbourne High School.

Columbus Artist to Have Paintings Featured in Ashland University Coburn Art Gallery Exhibition

8/1/11 ASHLAND, OH -- The Coburn Art Gallery at Ashland University will be hosting an art exhibition of mixed media sculpture by artist Jason Kaufman of Mansfield and paintings by Laura Weiser of Columbus.

The exhibition will open on Friday, Aug. 12, and run through Sept. 16. The gallery will have a reception on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

Ashland University to Host EEC's Entrepreneurship Immersion Week

7/19/11 ASHLAND, OH -- This year's Entrepreneurship Immersion Week, a national award winning program of the Entrepreneurship Education Consortium (EEC), will be held on the Ashland University campus from Aug. 7 to 12.

"The Entrepreneurship Education Consortium (EEC) is a unique intercollegiate competition opportunity involving nine northeast Ohio colleges and universities," said Read Wakefield, director of the Burton D. Award-Winning Writers Featured in Ashland University Master of Fine Arts Summer Program

7/18/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Accomplished writers Thomas French, Kathleen Norris and David Wojahn will join four additional visiting writers and 14 faculty members in presenting at Ashland University's Master of Fine Arts Summer Residency Program this summer. The events, which are free and open to the public, will begin July 24 and continue through Aug. 5.

Ashland University Receives $1.58 Million HRSA Grant for College of Nursing

7/15/11 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University has received a $1.58 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for "Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention" at the university. One hundred percent of the Ashland University project will be financed with federal grant dollars from HRSA.
