Center to Show Video on Christmas Truce of World War I

11/9/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland Center for Nonviolence (ACN) will be showing a video on the Christmas Truce of World War I on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center auditorium on the Ashland University campus.

Following the video, Dr. Dan Lawson, dean of Religious Life, and Dr. Duncan Jamieson, professor of history, will lead a discussion of one of the most amazing moments in World War I. This event is free and open to the public.

Program on Understanding Mediation Set for Nov. 13

11/5/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Shelly Whalen, executive director of Community Mediation Services of Central Ohio, will be presenting the program "Understanding Mediation and How It Works" on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Kroc Center (Salvation Army), 527 E. Liberty, Ashland.

Whalen will explain mediation and demonstrate how mediation works. The program is free and open to anyone interested in learning about mediation.

Community Asked to Help Fight Hunger with Art

11/4/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University's Coburn Art Gallery, the Art Department and the Center for Community Service are asking community organizations to join Ashland University student organizations in participating in a flag decorating contest to raise money for the Ashland County Food Bank.

"It is time to get creative and raise money for the Ashland County Food Bank by creating a work of art on an 18" x 24" canvas," said Cynthia C. Petry, director of the Coburn Art Gallery. "The theme for the flag creation is open, so people can use their imagination."

Environmental Lecture Set for Nov. 18

11/4/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University's 2010-2011 Environmental Lecture Series on "Invasive Species" will continue on Nov. 18 when Dr. Mary Gardiner, assistant professor of entomology at the Ohio State University - Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, will speak on "Invasive plants, aphids, and lady beetles: an exotic food web impacting Ohio's agricultural landscapes."

The lecture will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

Ashland University Theatre Performs Obie Award-Winner José Rivera's Drama 'Marisol'

10/29/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University Department of Theatre presents the second production of its 2010-2011 "award-winning" season with "Marisol," the compelling drama by Obie award-winner José Rivera.

Co-directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Teresa Durbin-Ames and senior theatre major Lauren Yobbagy, the performances begin Thursday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Ashland University's Studio Theatre. Evening performances continue on Nov. 12, 13 and 18-20 at 7:30 p.m. with an afternoon matinee scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m.
