Ashland Area Chorus Announces 13th Anniversary Season with Rehearsals Beginning Aug. 23

8/16/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland Area Chorus (AAC), a non-auditioned mixed choir of about 70 singers based at Ashland University, announces the start of its 13th anniversary season. The fall rehearsal schedule begins Monday, Aug. 23, and continues every Monday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ashland University in the Center for the Arts (formerly the Arts and Humanities building), room 242.

Ashland University to Offer Courses as Part of Grove City Center for Higher Education

8/10/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University will be one of six colleges and universities offering courses this fall as part of the new city of Grove City Center for Higher Education.

Dwight McElfresh, dean of the newly created Founders School of Continuing Education at Ashland University, said Ashland will be offering a superintendent's licensure cohort and professional development workshops this fall as part of this new partnership program.

Ashland University to Bring Master Illusionist to Campus

8/5/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Mayhem and Misdirection Tour featuring a variety show of music, mystery, illusion and comedy by master illusionist Harris III and special guest 321 Improv Comedy is coming to Ashland University on Oct. 30 for a performance in Hugo Young Theatre.

The 7:30 p.m. show, sponsored by the Center of Religious Life as a part of the Christian Activities Day events, will offer "hilarious, interactive, life-changing fun for the entire family." Doors will open at 7 p.m.

Ashland University to Offer Primary Group Exercise Certification

7/29/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University's Department of Recreational Services will be holding an Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Primary Group Exercise Certification (v4) Workshop Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This workshop is for anyone who is or is interested in becoming a group exercise instructor. Those who sign up will receive a packet of study materials prior to the workshop and certification tests will be given on the day of the workshop. Those passing the tests will receive certification to be a group exercise instructor.

Ashland University Theatre Student in Running for Role on AMC's Mad Men

7/27/10 ASHLAND, OH -- An Ashland University theatre student is competing for a guest appearance on AMC's Mad Men television show and is requesting that people cast a vote for him.

Aaron Arnold, a sophomore theatre major from Chardon, is currently one of the top three contenders for a role on AMC's Mad Men show. The voting, which is part of a contest sponsored by American Movie Classics Co. and Banana Republic, will continue through Sept. 17.

Ashland University Sets Spectrum Arts and Lecture Series for Fall Season

7/21/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Spectrum Arts and Lecture Series at Ashland University will hold a series of events for the 2010 fall season that will include performances by the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, comedians Randy and Jason Sklar, and the Golden Dragon Acrobats.

Spectrum will open the semester with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre inside the Center for the Arts.

Ashland Theological Seminary Accredited to Offer Complete Degree Programs in Columbus

7/19/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland Theological Seminary, a graduate division of Ashland University, has received approval from the Association of Theological Schools' Commission on Accrediting to offer two complete master's degree programs at the University's Columbus Center located at 1900 E. Dublin-Granville Road.

Ashland University Receives $5 Million Challenge Gift

7/7/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University announced Tuesday that it has received a $5 million naming challenge gift for a new academic building for its College of Nursing.

Ashland University President Dr. Frederick Finks said the $12 million campaign for the College of Nursing, which will be located in Mansfield, received a jump start through this $5 million challenge gift from Ashland University alumnus and longtime supporter Dwight Schar. The gift will match dollar for dollar other gifts to the campaign.
