Department of Recreational Services to Hold Youth Sports and Activities Summer Camp

5/12/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --Ashland University's Department of Recreational Services will be hosting a Sports and Activities Summer camp during the summer months. The first session begins June 21 - 25. The second session is from July 12-16; and the final session takes place August 2-6. Camps are held between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. with extended care available.

The camps are open to any youth between the ages of 5 and 12. Campers will have fun filled days where they will participate in team building and sports activities, rock climbing, arts and crafts, and will enjoy time in the pool.

Department of Recreational Services to Hold Community Indoor Basketball League

5/12/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --Ashland University's Department of Recreational Services will be hosting a Community Indoor Basketball League during the summer months. Play begins Tuesday, June 15, and will run every Tuesday night (with Wednesday night as a second night of play if necessary) until August 10.

Wes Bonadio, assistant director of programming for the Department of Recreational Services, said the league is open to adults age 17 and older and teams will play five-on-five with a maximum roster size of 12 players.

Ohio Senate President Gives Advice to Ashland University Graduates

5/8/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --Ohio Senate President and Ashland resident Bill Harris shared his thoughts on the importance of servant leadership with Ashland University graduates on Saturday.

In a rain-shortened ceremony on the front lawn of Founders Hall, Harris cut his spring commencement address short and told those graduating that "the issue of servant leadership is facing you now as you approach your new career."

Harris said that the prophet Micah, when questioned by naysayers, told others to "do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your Lord."

Ashland University Recreation Center Open to Off-Campus Groups

5/6/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --Ashland University is now making its Recreation Center available to rent to off-campus groups and organizations as well as individuals in the community.

"If someone is looking for a new and exciting place to host a high school graduation party or a company party, then the Recreation Center at Ashland University is the place,' said Janel Crabiel, director of recreational services at Ashland University.

Ashland University Slates Dedication Ceremony

4/28/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --Ashland University will hold a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Messerly Natatorium in the Recreation and Rybolt Sport Sciences Center on Thursday, May 6, at 4:30 p.m. The Messerly Natatorium is being named for the late Dr. Charles and Josephine Messerly, formerly of Martins Ferry, and their daughter, Dr. Donna Messerly, who has been an Ashland University faculty member for 40 years.

Partnership for Philanthropic Planning North Central Ohio Council Slates Seminar

4/27/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --The Partnership for Philanthropic Planning North Central Ohio Council (formerly the North Central Ohio Planned Giving Council) will host a session for legal, financial and estate planning professionals and charitable organizations on May 25. The seminar, to be held from 12:30 to 5 p.m. in the Ridenour Executive Education Center in Ashland University's Dauch College of Business and Economics, is the first event in the Council's 2010 Continuing Education Seminar Series.

Ashland University Students Conduct Research of the Paranormal; Will Hold Public Event to Report Findings

4/26/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --Metaphysics, a branch of philosophy often referred to as the study of "What Is?," is becoming more popular for philosophy degree students these days, especially as it relates to the study of the paranormal, according to Dr. Jeffrey Tiel, associate professor of philosophy at Ashland University.

Ashland University's Second Spring Choral Concert Set for May 2

4/21/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --The Department of Music at Ashland University will present its second spring choral concert on Sunday, May 2, at 4 p.m. in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel.  The performance is free and open to the public.

Rowland Blackley, director of Choral Activities, will conduct the Ashland University Choir and Ashland Chamber Singers. Stephanie Sikora, head of the Voice Area, will conduct the Women's Chorus.
