Ashland University Professor Says 'Pulling an All-Nighter' is Not a Good Idea

5/12/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --Dr. David Vanata, associate professor of family and consumer sciences at Ashland University, has done extensive research in areas involving nutrition and cognition and warns students that all-nighters result in a decrease in productivity and mental sharpness as well as an increase in stress. While staying up all night to study for an exam during finals week is a fairly common occurrence on a university campus, it is not really a good policy, according to an Ashland University professor.

Ashland University Slates Dedication Ceremony

4/28/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --Ashland University will hold a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Messerly Natatorium in the Recreation and Rybolt Sport Sciences Center on Thursday, May 6, at 4:30 p.m. The Messerly Natatorium is being named for the late Dr. Charles and Josephine Messerly, formerly of Martins Ferry, and their daughter, Dr. Donna Messerly, who has been an Ashland University faculty member for 40 years.

Ashland University Students Conduct Research of the Paranormal; Will Hold Public Event to Report Findings

4/26/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --Metaphysics, a branch of philosophy often referred to as the study of "What Is?," is becoming more popular for philosophy degree students these days, especially as it relates to the study of the paranormal, according to Dr. Jeffrey Tiel, associate professor of philosophy at Ashland University.

Ashland University's Second Spring Choral Concert Set for May 2

4/21/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --The Department of Music at Ashland University will present its second spring choral concert on Sunday, May 2, at 4 p.m. in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel.  The performance is free and open to the public.

Rowland Blackley, director of Choral Activities, will conduct the Ashland University Choir and Ashland Chamber Singers. Stephanie Sikora, head of the Voice Area, will conduct the Women's Chorus.

Ashland University Theatre presents its first annual Theatre Gala

4/19/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --The Ashland University Department of Theatre and its chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, the national theatre honorary, will hold their first annual Theatre Gala on Saturday, May 1, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., in Hugo Young Theatre in the Center for the Arts.
The evening will celebrate this year's theatrical season with light desserts, a special performance by the Drop of a Hat Players, and a presentation by AU alumna Aretta Baumgardner.

Ashland University to Host Chemistry Camp for Middle School Students

4/15/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --Ashland University will host Chemistry Can Be Fun Camp, a laboratory experience for middle grade students entering grades 7-9, offered with the Institute for Chemical Education.

Sessions will be held June 21-24 from 9 a.m. to noon each day at Ashland University's Kettering Science Center.

This camp is for students with an interest in science who can work at grade level and at a moderately independent level. Students will be kept busy for the three hours, but they do need to be able to work efficiently and safely in a laboratory setting.

Ashland University Department of Music presents end-of-semester performances

4/15/10 ASHLAND, Ohio --The Department of Music at Ashland University presents two end-of-semester performances in the Center for the Arts. Both performances are free and open to the public.
"Variable Winds" a joint performance by the Ashland Area Community Concert Band and the University Concert Band, conducted by Leonard Salvo, will be performed on Sunday, April 25, at 4 p.m., in Hugo Young Theatre.
