The William Emory Trainham Jr. Endowed Scholarship in Business Established at AU

The William Emory Trainham Jr. Endowed Scholarship in Business has been established at Ashland University and AU alumni who knew the former chairman of the Business Administration Department are being asked to support the scholarship that is expected to advance
the business analytics education program at AU.

The scholarship was established by his step-son Dr. Tim Keyes and his wife, Jennifer, on behalf of the Trainham and Keyes families. Keyes is a 1983 graduate of AU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.

Ashland University Human Resources Student Chapter Receives Prestigious Award from World’s Largest HR Association

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has awarded a 2017-2018 Superior Merit Award designation to the Ashland University Human Resources Student Chapter for providing superior growth and development opportunities to its student chapter members.

“This is the highest level of the awards that a chapter can receive,” said Joan Berry Kalamas, professional instructor in business management in the Dauch College of Business and Economics and HR Student Chapter adviser. “Our students worked very hard this past year – they held many meetings, brought in guest speakers and did community service work. I am very proud of them for being awarded the Superior Merit Award.”

AU Commencement Outside at Miller Stadium

Ashland University’s Spring 2018 Commencement ceremony for today will be held OUTSIDE at Miller Stadium in the Schar Athletic Complex off Broad Street on the northwest side of campus. The ceremony will start at 10 a.m. with the procession to begin at approximately 9:55 a.m. No tickets are needed for the ceremony held at the Stadium.

Graduating students and faculty who are participating in the ceremony are to assemble at 9 a.m. at the soccer field and track located just southwest of the football stadium. Handicapped parking for those attending the ceremony will be located in parking lot E, which is lot located next to the John C. Myers Convocation Center and Amstutz Hall.

AU’s Outdoor Commencement Option Being Moved to Miller Stadium

Because of the soft ground and the forecast for more rain this week, Ashland University administrators have decided to move the outdoor location back to Miller Stadium for the May 5 Commencement. The location had been scheduled for the front lawn of Founders Hall as part of the 140th anniversary celebration of the University.

“It has been an unusually wet and cold spring and the ground is still saturated,” said Rick Ewing, vice president of operations and planning. “We are worried that with the wet conditions of the front lawn and the forecast for more rain, the lawn will be too soft to accommodate the ceremony.”

Ashland University Honors Faculty Member with Taylor Teaching Award

Ashland University’s Joan Berry Kalamas, professional instructor in business management in the Dauch College of Business and Economics, is the recipient of AU’s 2018 Taylor Excellence in Teaching Award. AU Provost Dr. Eun-Woo Chang presented the award at AU’s Academic Honors Convocation on Sunday, April 22, in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel.

The award, first presented in 1997, was endowed by former Jeromesville residents the late Edward and Louaine Taylor as a way of supporting high quality teaching at Ashland University.

Ashland University’s Emerson Scholars Receive Recognition

Ten Emerson Scholars from Ashland University’s Dauch College of Business and Economics received recognition and a scholarship at the Emerson Scholar Awards luncheon held on the Ashland University campus.

This year’s group of ten students who will be seniors in the fall include Vanessa Byers, a marketing major from Loudonville, Ohio, who is a 2015 graduate of Loudonville High School; Holly Damron, an accounting major from New London, Ohio, who is a 2015 graduate of New London High School; Keagn Frey, a marketing major from Bellevue, Ohio, who is a 2015 graduate of Bellevue High School; Kyle Gerber, a supply chain management and business management major from Winesburg, Ohio, who is a 2015 graduate of Hiland High School; Esther Goodell, a marketing major from Amherst, Ohio, who is a 2016 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School; Dan Morell, a supply chain management and business management major from Brecksville, Ohio, who is a 2015 graduate of Brecksville Broadview High School; Trevor Resse, a finance major from Lisbon, Ohio, who is a 2016 graduate of David Anderson High School; Ewelina Siwik, an international business major from Streetsboro, Ohio, who is a 2015 graduate of Streetsboro High School; Lauren Taylor, a marketing major from Wooster, Ohio, who is a 2015 graduate of Wooster High School; and Michael Ward, a finance major from Lexington, Ohio, who is a 2015 graduate of Lexington High School.

Ashland University Student Receives Regional Scholarship

Bay Village resident Hannah Wittkopf, a junior at Ashland University, is one of the recipients of the 2018 Ohio Regional Council Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) scholarship. She is one of three scholarship recipients.

Wittkopf is majoring in accounting and is the president of the Institute of Management Accountants chapter for Ashland University. She is the daughter of Paul and Carol Wittkopf of Bay Village and is a 2014 graduate of Bay Village High School.

Dr. Lucille Ford Inducted into OFIC Hall of Excellence

Ashland native Dr. Lucille Ford was selected as a 2018 inductee into The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges’ (OFIC) Hall of Excellence and she attended the induction ceremony held in Columbus last week.

An emeritus trustee of Ashland University, Dr. Ford served the University as provost, dean and professor, and also received a degree from Ashland Theological Seminary in 1995. Ford, who was nominated by Ashland University, was one of two inductees into the Hall of Excellence this year.

Millersburg Native and Ashland University Student Awarded The J.M. Smucker Co. Annual Scholarship

Makayla Palm, an Ashland University junior majoring in accounting, was named The J.M. Smucker Co. Scholarship award winner for the academic year 2017-1018 at AU’s Student Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Meeting. Palm, a resident of Millersburg, is a 2016 graduate of West Holmes High School.

The $2,500 scholarship was presented to Palm by Joyce Badertscher, lead analyst, Supply Chain Finance, for The J.M. Smucker Co.

Ashland University Officials Sign Academic Collaboration with University of Haifa Officials

Ashland University President Dr. Carlos Campo and Dean of the Dauch College of Business and Economics Dr. Elad Granot last week signed an academic collaboration agreement with officials from the University of Haifa in Haifa, Israel.

Campo and Granot entered into an agreement with University of Haifa President Ron Robin and Rector Gustavo Mesch that will establish a joint MBA program in entrepreneurship. The opportunity to study at an Israeli campus is expected to generate significant interest among the student body of Ashland University.
