Ashland University Theatre Hosting Costume Sale In Time For Halloween

9/8/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University Theatre is cleaning its closets and hosting a costume sale on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Heritage Room in the John C. Myers Convocation Center.

Items range from $.25 to $15, and include a large variety of costumes ideal for Halloween. Highlights include men's suits, military uniforms, a cow costume, Cabaret costumes (multiples of the same costume), western dresses, harem hats, dozens of wigs, and props (curtains, bedding, wall paper, table clothes, etc.).

Ashland University Box Office Now Open For Event Sales

9/8/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland University Central Box Office is now open for campus event sales, Monday through Friday, 12 noon to 6 p.m., and one hour prior to events. In addition to University events, the Box Office sells tickets to all Ashland Symphony Orchestra concerts with the exception of season tickets.

Ashland University's MFA Residency Draws Writers and Students from Across the Nation

9/6/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Readings and workshops by renowned memoirist Tobias Wolff and Pulitzer-Prize winning poet Natasha Trethewey highlighted this year's Ashland University Master's in Fine Arts Summer Residency at which nine students successfully defended creative theses and were awarded the MFA in Creative Writing.

University's Nonviolence Presentation to Focus on Israel and Palestine

9/6/10 ASHLAND, OH -- "The Israeli - Palestinian Conflict: A Struggle for a Homeland" will be the focus of a presentation by Dr. John Byron, associate professor of New Testament and Greek at the Ashland Theology Seminary.

The presentation will be held in the Ronk Lecture Hall in the Schar College of Education on Wed., Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Byron's talk is sponsored by the Ashland Center for Nonviolence and is free and open to the public.

Ashland University's Margaret Pomfret Selected for National Leadership Development Program

9/3/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Margaret Pomfret, executive director of Development and Campaigns for Ashland University, is one of only 42 mid-level administrators in higher education nationwide selected by the Council of Independent Colleges and the American Academic Leadership Institute to participate in a year-long Senior Leadership Academy.

Ashland University Catering and Conferences Department Receives Grand Prize

9/3/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University Catering and Conferences Department was awarded the grand prize by the National Association of College and University Foods Services (NACUFS) for its entry in the category of catering standard menu in the annual Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards.

The award was presented at the NACUFS conference in San Jose, Calif.

Ashland University Biology Assistant Professor Contributes to Award-Winning Book

9/2/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Dr. Steven Fenster, assistant professor of biology at Ashland University, contributed to a chapter in a book that was selected as the winner of the American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence (PROSE) in the category of Excellence in Biology and Life Sciences.

The book, which was titled "Current Protocols in Essential Laboratory Techniques," was edited by Sean R. Gallagher & Emily A. Wiley and the award was received by John Wiley & Sons Inc.

Ashland University to Hold Fall Open House Events

9/2/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland University Office of Admission will be holding its Fall Open House events on Saturday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Nov. 6.

"The Fall Open House events are an opportunity to help prospective students narrow down their college search," said Thomas Mansperger, director of the Office of Admission. "The events will allow students to interact in a fun, 'fair-type' environment with faculty and staff from every department."

Ashland Area Community Concert Band Begins Rehearsals Sept. 7

9/1/10 ASHLAND, OH -- The Ashland Area Community Concert Band (AACCB), led by Ashland University's Director of Bands Leonard Salvo, announces its fall schedule beginning with rehearsals on Tuesday, Sept. 7, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall at Ashland University's Center for the Arts.

The fall schedule continues through the fall with rehearsals every Tuesday evening, a concert at the Ashland County Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 21, and a concert at the University on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Ashland University Slates President's Convocation

9/1/10 ASHLAND, OH -- Ashland University invites area residents to attend the annual President's Convocation on Sunday, Sept. 12. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 4 p.m. in the University's Jack and Deb Miller Chapel, located on the corner of King Road and College Avenue.

With faculty adorned in academic regalia, the event will feature an address by Ashland University President Dr. Frederick Finks. His address is titled "Passion & Persistence, The Keys to Success."
