The Ohio Arts Council, through the Traditional Artist Apprenticeship Grant program has awarded Kate McMahon and Priscilla Roggenkamp a grant for Priscilla to undertake an apprenticeship by Kate McMahon in Appalachian weaving. This opportunity will enable Priscilla to learn, practice and incorporate traditional methods of weaving into her contemporary art practice. The study also will focus on the culture of the Appalachian region.
Furthermore, this study will allow Priscilla to experience a different type of pedogogy. The apprenticeship model is a method of teaching in the arts with a long history. This experience will provide opportunities for interested AU art students to expand their knowlede of this topic as well.
