Professor of English
Dr. Russell Weaver, professor of English, joined the faculty in 1986. He teaches courses in Romantic and Victorian British literature; Greek literature; 19th century Russian Novel (War and Peace and The Brothers Karamazov); and he offers a rotating set of major writers seminars on Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, Melville/Conrad, Austen and Hemingway. Dr. Weaver has published Questioning Keats: An Introduction to Applied Hermeneutics in 2006, The Moral World of Billy Budd in 2014, and Teaching English at Ridgeview in 2015, all with Peter Lang Publishing. The last is an account of how the fifteenth-ranked charter school in the country, located in Fort Collins, Colorado, is succeeding in part through following, in many of their academic departments, the approach to teaching English he developed. He is now working on The Moral World of The Sun Also Rises. Weaver has also directed the Ashland University Philosophy Reading Group for over twenty-five years. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Chicago and his B.A. from Tulane University.
