Ashland University Theatre opens season with “An Enemy of the People"

Ashland University Theatre opens its 2019-20 “Season of Courage” with Arthur Miller's adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People on Oct. 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre.

Directed by Dr. Teresa Durbin-Ames, Associate Professor of Theatre, the show is being produced in conjunction with The Arthur Miller Society's 13th International Conference, which is being held at Ashland University Oct. 18-20.

Eye Care tech inventor Bailey to speak at Ashland U. “Lab to Marketplace” seminar

Eye care technology inventor Dr. Melissa Bailey will speak on the topic, “Vision for the Future”, Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ronk Lecture Hall at the Schar College of Education at Ashland University.

The talk is the third annual presentation of the “Lab to Marketplace” seminars sponsored by the Science Scholars Program in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Studies in the Dauch College of Business and Economics. The seminars are designed to bring speakers to the AU campus who are engaged in research that uses scientific knowledge to develop new technologies and other applications.

Ashland U. slates 2019 Homecoming, Family Day activities

ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University alumni and students will celebrate the 141st anniversary of Ashland College/University as it renews the annual tradition of Homecoming and Family Day with a week full of activities slated to begin Oct. 6.

Highlights of the event include the Pizza Pizza Pizza Fan Fest prior to Saturday’s football game between the Ashland Eagles and Davenport University Panthers, the crowning of the Homecoming king and queen during halftime of the game, the All-Alumni Party and the new Celebration of Every Individual event.

AU Campus Wellness hosts free hands-only CPR training

Ashland University Campus Wellness will host the American Heart Association and the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation as the two organizations team up to offer FREE hands-only CPR and AED training as part of a mobile tour that will stop at the University’s Rec Center on King Road Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

To pre-register for one of the 30-minute training sessions, go to heart.org/cprtour/Ashland. The first 250 participants will receive a hands-only CPR Anytime Training Kit that they can use to extend this life-saving skill to family and friends. In addition, each session will include a question-and-answer segment with prizes and other giveaways.

Philosopher Beckwith speaks as part of Faith and Society series

Philosopher, professor and author Francis J. Beckwith will speak on the topic, "A Heartbeat Away?: The Supreme Court and the Future of Roe v. Wade" on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. at the Jack & Deb Miller Chapel at Ashland University.
The presentation, which is free and open to the public, is part of the University’s Faith and Society Lecture Series, sponsored by the Hilda E. Bretzlaff Foundation.

Ashland University’s ‘Naturalist on Duty’ Series to Hold Final Event on Oct. 5

The final event in Ashland University’s Environmental Studies Center’s “Naturalist on Duty” series for this year will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, at the AU Black Fork Wetlands, 2636 Ashland Road. This event will feature the topic, “Fall Insects.”

All events are free and open to the public and each open-house style event is held between 10 a.m. and noon. Those under 16 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Ashland University has been ranked as the top private university in Ohio in Study.com’s ranking of the Top 50 best Online Master’s Degree schools in the country.

Ranked as the 39th best Online Master’s School in the U.S., AU is the top private university in Ohio as well as the second best Ohio college overall, behind Bowling Green State University, which was ranked No. 35.

Film Screening of National Geographic's Documentary on Efforts Battling Climate Change – ‘Paris to Pittsburgh’

The National Geographic Documentary Film “Paris to Pittsburgh” will be shown on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. in Ashland University's Hawkins-Conard Student Center Auditorium as part of the College of Arts & Sciences’ biennial Symposium Against Indifference, which is focusing on "Liberty and Responsibility."

Co-sponsored by the Ashland Center for Nonviolence, the free, public event will also include a panel discussion immediately following the film’s screening with Craig Hovey, director of the Ashland Center for Nonviolence; Patricia Saunders, associate professor of Biology; and William Vaughan, professor of Philosophy.

AU Professor's Involvement in a Summer of Mammoths

Over the summer, Dr. Nigel Brush, AU professor of Geology, has been kept busy identifying various rocks, fossils and human artifacts exposed by recent heavy rains and flash floods here in NE Ohio. While this summer’s heavy rains were not good for farmers, as well as some home owners living near streams, it was a windfall for geologists and archaeologists as nature accidentally revealed some of the ancient treasures buried beneath the earth’s surface.
